Questions

What parents ask before they hire me

What does it cost?

Juvenile cases through the first hearing and any agreement are a flat fee, quoted in writing before you decide. A contested hearing is quoted separately. If you can't pay, ask the court about appointed counsel; I'll tell you honestly if that is the better route.

How soon can we meet?

Call. If a court date or a school meeting is close, say so and I'll do my best to meet before it.

Do you take adult cases?

No. I only take juvenile matters, and I send adult charges to lawyers who handle them every day.

Can I be in the room when my child talks to you?

Often, yes. I'll sometimes ask to speak with your child alone. That doesn't mean there's something to hide.

Will my child have to go to court?

Usually, yes, for at least the first date. I'll explain what the room is like and where everyone sits.

Does a juvenile charge go on a record?

A juvenile record is usually kept apart from adult ones, and many can be sealed later. The rules depend on the charge and the state.

Can the case end without a finding?

Sometimes. Courts offer agreements and programs that can lead to a case closing without a finding. I'll tell you whether yours is one.

What if my child has already talked to the police?

Call me anyway. I'll find out what was said and how it was recorded, then we'll plan from there.

Still have a question?

Send it with the court date, if you have one, and I'll write back myself.
